Since its beginnings there were to towns coexisting; each one of them stablished its own public space to develop daily life activities and to express collective manifestations of its social and spiritual life. Two towns in one, with two central plazas and two different cultures.
Amidst the daily coexistence generated by the closeness of its plaza, these two towns had to establish alliances in order to carry out communitarian meetings leaving behind all kinds of disputes to consolidate a one town. It was a long process during which The Carnival played an important role as generator of change and union among people, modifying racial, social and cultural discrimination attitudes to finally constitute the main element in the consolidation of Riosucio and base for its most ancestral traditions.
One of the Carnival´s main features, which has endured since the towns were unified, is that during its celebration all kinds of conflicts are temporarily forgotten. Fights are avoided and when they happen they surely originate from a foreigner who doesn?t understand that in this carnival the soul is softened with singing and dancing, so malign spirits don?t enter and ruin the party.
