El municipio de la Merced ?Caldas, ubicado a 38 kilómetros de Manizales, se destaca por su gran potencial potencial eco y agroturístico, además de su singular belleza natural. Lo primero que llama la atención es su escarpada topografía hacia el cañón del río Cauca. Por esta condición, es frecuente encontrar miradores naturales, que permiten una magnifica vista sobre el área rural. Existen lugares poco conocidos, aún por los propios habitantes, como la Cascada en la vereda Maciegal y los hermosos paisajes de la quebrada Doctrinas, en la Vereda San José.
Es también interesante observar el despegue de parapentes en el alto de la vereda el Tambor que gracias a su topografía y estratégica ubicación ha dado pie para desarrollar y fortalecer las prácticas de este deporte extremo al que se suman el rafting y neumáticos sobre el río Cauca, así como el ciclo montañismo por los diferentes parajes naturales de la localidad. En la zona también podemos encontrar en la vereda Llanadas sitios de pesca deportiva.
LA MERCED – CALDAS, EXTREME ADVENTURE NATIONAL PARAGLIDING MEETING FROM JULY 18TH TO 20TH
The municipality of La Merced (in the department of Caldas), located just 38km away of the capital city of Manizales, highlights by its ecological and agrotouristic potential, as well as by its natural beauty. The first thing we must stand out is its sheer topography at Cauca River?s canyon. Thanks to this condition it is usual to find natural watchtowers which allow a great view of the rural area. Less known places exist such as the waterfall at Maciegal rural district and the beautiful landscapes of Doctrinas Creek at San José Rural District.
El Tambor, just 8km away from La Merced is a place with a mountainous terrain and is a perfect place for paragliding. Tourists can enjoy this experience in a tamdem ride but they must contact people who carry out this activity at least 10 days before the proposed date. The famous Paragliding Festival will be carried out here from July 18th to 20th for the pleasure of inhabitants and visitors.
