Llega nuevamente la celebración de la Semana Santa durante este mes de marzo. Una época en la que la Iglesia Católica nos invita a reflexionar de manera espirítual sobre nuestros valores y creencias, sobre el papel que estamos llevando a cabo para ser mejores seres humanos. Una ocasión propicia, como lo acaba de corroborar el mismo papa Francisco durante su reciente visita a México, para reconciliarnos con el medio ambiente, con el entorno que habitamos, pues a la postre es el que nos garantiza nuestra supervivencia si lo preservamos de manera adecuada para que nos ofrezca el aire, el agua y todo ese entorno limpio y puro que requerimos para tener una vida sana y feliz.
A lo anterior se suman las denuncias conocidas en desarrollo del reciente foro que sobre el estado del PCCC llevó a cabo en Pereira la Comisión de Ordenamiento Territorial del Senado de la República, y en el que se advirtió por parte de sus participantes sobre el nocivo efecto de la minería ilegal en la zona, así como el desaforado proceso de urbanismo que se lleva a cabo en muchos municipios arrasando sin piedad con los cultivos de café y la falta de voluntad política de la mayoría de los alcaldes para ajustar sus planes de ordenamiento territorial a las exigencias que plantea la Unesco para garantizar la preservación del PCCC.
El llamado entonces es vivir una Semana Santa en paz y en armonía con la naturaleza, a vivir una verdadera comunión con esa «Creación Divina? que nos regocija y nos inunda el alma por su grandeza y excepcional belleza, tal y como lo pueden corroborar los miles de turistas que día a día recorren el Paisaje Cultural Cafetero Colombiano.

A PEACEFUL HOLY WEEK AT THE CULTURAL COFFEE LANDSCAPE
March has arrived again, with the traditional Holy Week celebration pending. A time on which the Catholic Church invites us to spiritually reflect about our values and beliefs in order to become better human beings. A good opportunity to reconcile with the environment as Pope Francis did on its recent visit to Mexico. The natural setting on which we live guarantees our survival by offering the fresh air and pure water we require for a healthy and happy life.
Holy Week is as well a vacation period for many, and our Colombian Cultural Coffee Landscape is a desirable national and international touristic destination, after being declared Cultural Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. Nonetheless, as many regions in the national geography, the zone has been touched by «El Niño? climatic phenomena. Forest fires and agricultural growing problems due to the important decrease of river?s water level have started affecting our landscape and hence economy as well for many rural hotels owners who benefit from tourism attracted by our landscape and patrimonial riches.
We have to add the denouncements on a recent forum on the state of the Cultural Coffee Landscape of the injurious effect of illegal mining industry in the zone. The accelerated urbanization process carried out in several municipalities and which has razed coffee plantations was also mentioned, as well as the lack of mayors? political will to adjust their territorial planning objectives to the exigencies by UNESCO to guarantee the preservation of The Landscape.
We call for a peaceful Holy Week, caring for nature, living a true communion with this «Divine Creation? which enlightens us and floods our soul with its greatness and exceptional beauty, just as thousands of tourists corroborate day by day as they tour the Colombian Cultural Coffee Landscape.
